After taking a traveling hiatus two weekends ago, I decided this past weekend to go down south/southwest to visit Nyungwe National Park, see some friends and meet some new ones. It was a great weekend (one of my last here in Rwanda...eeks!) and I'll leave you with some lessons learned and pics below:
Lessons Learned:
1. Standing is better than sitting when in the bed of a pickup truck going over potholes and dirt roads. Just make sure you keep your mouth closed.
2. Mimicking chimpanzee sounds is actually more difficult than one would assume
3. Calling the bus company 4 times in the morning while still half asleep does not equate to making a reservation for 3
4. The trick to getting through Nyungwe Forest on a bus without losing your hair or food contents is forcing yourself to go to sleep.
5. Abundance of bro-love is high at a braai among a bunch of somewhat coarse but truly entertaining South Africans in Gisakura
6. Sleeping 5 in a row on a cement floor is actually quite comfortable if you have a ton of blankets. I was snug as a bug in the middle of everyone.
7. A little bit of beach goes a long way.
8. Keys are important. Make sure you have them before leaving for home. Especially if your home is 6 hours away.
